On 15 September, CAPED India presented its poster, “Decentralising HPV DNA Screening in Underserved Settings: A Hub & Spoke Model from Jharkhand, India,” virtually at the 14th Annual Symposium on Global Cancer Research (ASGCR2026), the flagship meeting of the NCI Center for Global Health. The symposium brought together researchers, clinicians, programme implementers and advocates to explore how locally grounded research can contribute to global cancer control.
The study, being implemented in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, examines how a hub-and-spoke model can decentralise HPV DNA screening and improve access for women in underserved settings. The presentation offered an opportunity to share CAPED’s field experience on an international platform while engaging with global perspectives on cancer prevention and control.
The research is being carried out in collaboration with ICMR-NICPR, the Government of Jharkhand and Asarfi Hospital. The study team includes Dr. Shalini Singh, Dr. Showket Hussain, Dr. Ruchika Gupta, Dr. C.P. Yadav, Dr. Smita Kumari, Dr. Swati Saxena, Mridu Gupta, Tolsy Sharma and Dr. Anupam Saha. Dr. Anupam Saha, State Lead – Jharkhand, CAPED, presented the study, bringing the team’s implementation experience from Dhanbad to a global audience.
Together, these efforts reflect CAPED’s continued focus on connecting research with implementation, sharing local evidence on global platforms while building the technical knowledge and institutional capacity needed to expand access to cervical cancer screening on the ground.
