We Are an Awardee: CAPED India Recognized Globally for Advancing Women’s Health

CAPED India has been selected as one of the 80+ Global Awardees of the Lever for Change Action for Women’s Health Challenge, supported by Melinda French Gates. Chosen from more than 4,000 organisations across 119 countries, this global recognition highlights the transformative work CAPED is doing to close critical cancer prevention gaps among women in underserved communities. This award acknowledges not only the urgency of women’s health needs in India but also the effectiveness, scalability, and impact of CAPED’s model in addressing them.

Women in low-resource settings continue to face significant obstacles in accessing cancer prevention and early detection services. Limited healthcare access, persistent socio-cultural stigmas, and a shortage of trained healthcare professionals delay diagnosis and treatment, contributing to India’s high cancer-related mortality rates. CAPED is dedicated to confronting these barriers head-on. Our work is rooted in empowering women through awareness, accessible screenings, and early detection for cervical, breast, and oral cancers — the most common cancers affecting women in the country. By integrating cancer prevention into local healthcare systems through trust, teamwork, and technology, CAPED ensures that even the most underserved women can access timely and life saving services.

As a global awardee, CAPED is now positioned to scale its impact even further. We plan to expand our Cervical Cancer Prevention (CCP) Model to incorporate breast and oral cancer prevention and transition from district-level to state-level implementation. This expansion is expected to create stronger health systems for cancer prevention, influence evidence-based healthcare policy, raise nationwide awareness, and significantly improve access to affordable screening and early detection services for women. Ultimately, this recognition strengthens our mission to develop a robust, adaptable, and sustainable playbook that can serve low-resource settings not only across India but around the world.

This award reinforces CAPED’s commitment to ensuring that every woman — regardless of geography, income, or social barriers — has the opportunity to prevent cancer, detect it early, and lead a healthier life.
