Who We Are

About Us

Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Early Detection (CAPED) Trust is a community outreach organisation working in the healthcare domain since its inception in 2014. Our core area of work is cancer prevention and early detection, with a focus on cervical cancer. We break down barriers to women’s health, and empower women to take action regarding their own health. We achieve this through community outreach, awareness and facilitating cancer screening for women from economically weaker sections of the society.

So far, we have impacted over 55.5 million+ people through awareness activities and screened 35k+ women and supported 859 screen-positive patients through our patient navigation program (data till Dec 2023). We have presence in Delhi, Haryana, UP, Punjab, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. We undertake advocacy efforts to effect policy changes at national level to facilitate wider accessibility to cervical cancer prevention modalities.

MR.  ARUN BHARAT RAM

Mr. Arun Bharat Ram hails from the renowned business family of Delhi, the owners of the Shri Ram Group and DCM with a legacy of more than 100 years. He is presently the Chairman of SRF Limited, an organization he set up in 1970, and which has now grown and diversified into a multi-business Rs. 5000 crore manufacturing company, having operations in India, Thailand and South Africa. Dr. Vaid obtained his MBBS and MD (Internal Medicine) degrees from the University of Jammu, India. Alok Goyal is a co-founder and Partner at Stellaris Venture Partners, an early stage, technology focused venture capital firm based out of Bangalore. Alok focuses on investments in enterprise software, logistics and automotive companies. On behalf of Stellaris, Alok is on the board of Whatfix, Noticeboard and Loadshare, and also is an Independent Director on the board of eClerx, a publicly listed company in India.

Amitav was Country Director, ARK India, a UK based NGO. As their CD, Amitav was responsible for launching several programmes around school leadership, English literacy, school vouchers and school quality assesments.

Arti Ahuja

Ex-IAS, MPP, MPH, MA, LLB

Arti Ahuja has held various senior level positions in the government of India over a career spanning 34 years. She has steered implementation as well as policy making in different positions in Odisha, LBSNAA Mussoorie and Union Govt. Many system reforms initiated by her, especially in health, nutrition, and issues relating to women, have been nationally and internationally recognized.

She holds a Masters in Public Policy from Princeton, Masters in Public Health from Harvard, Masters in Economics from Chandigarh, and LLB from Delhi University. She was a Member of the IEG for the Global Nutrition Report; Senior Honorary Research Associate, Global Institute for Health, University College London; and on the Advisory Committee of Harvard for malaria eradication. Currently she is a member of the GCAN, and advises various national and international organizations. She has published numerous articles on health, nutrition and social sector issues in prestigious peer reviewed publications.

Dr. Raj Shankar Ghosh

MBBS, MPH, FIPHA; Founding Member at Quality, Equity, and Inclusiveness (QEI) in Public Health

Dr. Raj Shankar Ghosh is a physician trained in public health. He has over three decades of experience in public health policy, program delivery, and health advocacy. Dr Ghosh has led impactful initiatives in infectious disease management, including the introduction of new vaccines and for Polio Eradication Initiative, Japanese Encephalitis control, and Visceral Leishmaniasis elimination in India and countries in the South Asia region. Having held leadership roles at organizations like WHO-NPSP, PATH, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, he has overseen large-scale, multi-country projects. Currently co-chairing the State Program Management Unit, Cancer Control initiatives, Jharkhand, Dr Ghosh focuses on driving equity, inclusiveness, and innovation in healthcare systems, with a vision to tackle infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and climate-related health challenges.

Dr. Shailesh Suri

MBBS, MRCP, MSc (Public Health); Founder, Sambhav Health

Shailesh has over 25 years of experience as a Doctor, technologist, and digital health entrepreneur. After qualifying as a doctor in the UK, he worked in the NHS, specializing in respiratory medicine and public health. Transitioning to technology, he has held leadership roles in startups and major companies, including 10 years at Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan. He subsequently spent four years as Vice President and Product Development Lead at Patients Know Best, a social enterprise that has become the largest provider of personal health records in the UK. Shailesh holds a medical degree from the University of Birmingham, an MSc in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a postgraduate Health Informatics qualification from University College London. He is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians of London.

Dr. Gaurav Arya

MBBS, MPH, PGDMLE; Director of Value & Access, Novartis

Dr. Gaurav Arya is a physician, healthcare delivery futurist and access policy leader, passionate about saving human lives globally. He has had a distinguished career in the healthcare space with close to 25 years of experience managing issues related to healthcare access, medical law, policy and health system challenges.  He revels at creating innovative solutions for reducing the burden of disease for non-communicable diseases. He has established and led several global, regional and country initiatives for strengthening NCD ecosystem. He received his training from Harvard University, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, MA Medical College, Delhi and National Law School University, Bangalore. His expertise lies in health systems strengthening and increasing access to medicines for NCDs. He is currently engaged as the Director for International Access in Novartis, working towards increasing availability and access to life saving medicines across the five continents.

He has worked with World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, International Federation of Red Cross and several fortune 100 corporates, increasing last mile impact through ethical innovations and evidence-based-decision making for action. He strongly believes in the power of collaboration for innovation and impact, with a strong focus on strategic planning and system reforms. He has extensive experience in navigating complex regulatory environments and developing innovative solutions to enhance patient impact.

Meenu Anand

MBA, MS, MPH; Director, Global Cancer Prevention, American Cancer Society

Meenu Anand is honored to serve as the Director of Global Cancer Prevention at the American Cancer Society (ACS) and a co-chair for Cervical Cancer Action for Elimination network. Meenu is passionate about collaborating with cancer organizations that serve low-resource communities to co-develop and implement cost-effective strategies for increasing the uptake of cancer prevention services. She has spent the last 20 years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and ACS in Atlanta. Meenu holds master’s degrees in business administration, information systems, and public health.

Dr. SABHYATA GUPTA

Dr. Sabhyata Gupta obtained her MD (Gynae. & Obst.) degree in 1991. She has trained in advanced laparoscopy in Germany following which, she underwent training in Robotic Surgery at Strasburg, France. She also took an advanced course in Cytoreductive Surgery for Ovarian Cancer & Peritoneal surface malignancies under Dr William Helm at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals, United Kingdom and subsequently trained under
Prof. Dror Meirow in Ovarian transplant in Israel.
She is the first Gynaecologist from India to do Robotic Surgery for Benign and Maligant Gynaecological Disorders

Dr. Md. Kausar Neyaz, Ph.D

Dr. Md. Kausar Neyaz completed his post graduation in Biotechnology from the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. He received his Ph.D in Molecular Biology from the department of Biosciences, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He completed his doctoral research in collaboration with National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, Noida, India. His doctoral research specialized in molecular characterization of tumor suppressor gene in Human Papillomavirus infected cervical cancer in Indian population.

Dr. Neyaz took up a post-doctoral research fellowship at Indiana School of Medicine, Indianapolis, USA. His post-doctoral research was focused on understanding the tropism and co-receptor preferences of envelopes for entry into primary cells and development of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies to block HIV infection.

He also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration with specialization in Human Resource Management from Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning, Pune, India.

He has more than a decade of experience in education and research with specialization in development of cancer biomarkers. He worked with global leaders in molecular diagnostics and life science research based multinational corporations and a multi-specialty tertiary care hospitals in India. During this period, he has published several research articles in peer reviewed international journals and also has book chapter on “Biomarkers for the Early Detection of Cervical Cancer” published in Preventive Oncology for the Gynecologist, Springer, Singapore.

Dr. Neyaz is proactively engages in creating mass awareness about common diseases in women and girls and that is preventable in nature through continuous public engagement programmes. In this capacity, he has participated in various scientific conferences and workshops across the country as speaker and panelist.

Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Vaid practiced and coordinated the Department of Medical Oncology at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCI) in Rohini, Delhi, India. In addition to his active medical oncology practice, Dr. Vaid has participated in many national and international clinical trials as a principal and sub-investigator. His clinical interests include Hemato-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant. He has also taken keen interest in treating breast cancer, lung cancer and genitor-urinary cancers.

Dr.  Sabhyata Gupta

Dr. Kanika Batra Modi is a consultant, Gynaecologic Oncology in the oncology department at Max Saket. She has over 10 years of experience and deals with all varieties of gynae cancers. Her special areas of interest are ovarian masses/ cancer surgery, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, HIPEC – heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy, vulvar and vaginal cancer surgery. Mridu Gupta

Mridu Gupta is a public health leader with nearly three decades of experience across the development sector, with a deep focus on health systems over the past ten years. As Co-founder and CEO of CAPED, she has supported cervical cancer prevention in India, leading awareness programs, early detection models, and national policy advocacy.

She also serves in leadership roles with global networks like the Asia Pacific Women’s Cancer Coalition and the Beat Cervical Cancer Network, and regularly presents at international forums including UICC and HDCA.

Off the field, Mridu finds balance through yoga – both as a long-time practitioner and certified instructor. She’s also an avid reader with a love for fiction and global health narratives. Her quiet discipline and expansive vision reflect a lifelong commitment to creating a healthier, more equitable world.

Ujjal Modi

Strategic Communication Lead

Ujjal Modi is a strategic communications leader with over 14 years of experience shaping narratives that spark social change across India and Asia. With a postgraduate degree in Public Relations and Marketing, he has crafted high-impact communications campaigns in education, public health, and livelihood working with INGOs, donors, and grassroots networks to support voices from the ground.

At the core of Ujjal’s work is a belief in the power of storytelling. Whether developing national campaigns or short-format digital content, he combines creative thinking with strategic intent to build brands, influence policy, and drive advocacy goals.

Outside the communications realm, Ujjal finds joy in calligraphy and sketching, and a true culinary enthusiast who explores regional cuisines across India. A keen reader of Indian history, he often travels to historical sites – seeking stories not just to tell, but to live.

Dr. Manisha Ohlan, PhD

Senior Communications Manager

Dr. Manisha Ohlan is the Senior Communications Manager at CAPED, where she leads the organization’s communications strategy, fundraising, due diligence, and stakeholder engagement. She works closely with the CEO to amplify CAPED’s mission and enhance its national visibility.

With a PhD in Communications Management and a background in public policy, Manisha brings a systems-thinking approach to social change. Before CAPED, she served as a Consultant at MANAGE, facilitating state and central projects in rural health and development.

An award-winning academic and recipient of the Dr. Saroj Kashyap and University Gold Medals, she is deeply committed to equity and the power of communication to drive change.

Outside work, she recharges through Zumba and badminton, and finds joy in exploring new places. Whether bonding with family or forming new friendships, Manisha brings energy, empathy, and intention into every connection.

Shobha Rani Jana

Social Media & Communication Associate

Shobha is a Social Media & Communication Associate at CAPED, where she blends digital storytelling with purpose-driven advocacy. Working at the intersection of public health and communication, she leads efforts to raise awareness around cervical cancer and women’s health through compelling content on social media and taking awareness sessions.

Her work spans both internal and external communications – from crafting newsletters and managing social media to amplifying field voices and co-creating impactful narratives. Shobha believes that powerful communication doesn’t just inform – it inspires, builds trust, and sparks meaningful change.

When she’s not shaping stories for social impact, Shobha is chasing new ones in real life. A passionate traveller, she enjoys reconnecting with nature and exploring unique cultures. Badminton keeps her energized, while evenings are often spent catching up with friends or immersed in her latest binge-worthy series.

Adyasa Parija

Ms. Adyasa Parija is the Senior People and Culture Officer at CAPED, with over a decade of experience leading human-centric initiatives and shaping value-driven workplaces. An MBA in Human Resource Management, she brings a cross-sector perspective to organizational development, people strategy, and inclusive culture building. Her approach balances structure with empathy – creating environments where individuals thrive while advancing CAPED’s mission of cancer prevention and awareness.

Adyasa is passionate about building purpose-led teams and believes that a healthy work culture is foundational to lasting impact.

Beyond work, she’s an avid traveller who finds peace and inspiration in the natural world. Adyasa turns to reflective readings and soul-stirring talks to stay centered. Gaurav Sharma serves as the HR & Admin Associate at CAPED, bringing over 9 years of hands-on experience in administrative and operations management. Tolsy Sharma

Senior Program Manager

Tolsy Sharma is the Senior Program Manager at CAPED, with over six years of experience in the development sector. Since joining CAPED in 2019, she has grown from managing day-to-day operations to leading the design of cervical cancer prevention programs across India.

Her expertise spans program strategy, budgeting, donor engagement, and multi-stakeholder coordination. Tolsy is especially skilled at translating high-level plans into locally grounded, scalable interventions – working closely with government bodies and civil society partners to build systems that create sustained impact.

Her vision goes beyond project timelines; she is driven by a commitment to lasting change in public health and social development.

Outside of work, Tolsy is a passionate music lover and singer, who finds inspiration in travel, reading, and cinema. These creative outlets fuel her perspective, bringing energy and innovation into everything she does.

Ravi Kumar

Head of Operations (Implementation)

Ravi Kumar is the Head of Operations (Implementation) at CAPED, with over 20 years of experience in the development sector across child welfare, poverty alleviation, agriculture, and healthcare. A graduate of the DAPP Frontline Institute, Zimbabwe, he brings global perspective and grassroots expertise to program design and execution.

At CAPED, Ravi has led large-scale cancer screening initiatives and conducted over 100 awareness workshops, breaking taboos around women’s health in schools, colleges, and rural communities. His collaboration with government bodies has helped shape impactful public healthcare programs across districts.

Outside of work, Ravi is a passionate traveler drawn to spiritual and culturally rich places. A true foodie, he enjoys discovering local cuisines – from street eats to traditional feasts. He also loves playing volleyball and badminton, and thrives on building meaningful networks. A lifelong learner, Ravi believes in translating knowledge into everyday impact.

Bernadine M Mawkhiew

Senior Manager Programs

With over 16 years of experience spanning corporate and social development sectors, Bernadine is an experienced counsellor with a Master’s in Psychology and multiple certifications in therapeutic counselling. Her work is rooted in a decade-long commitment to women’s and adolescent health, where she blends psychological insight with deep empathy to support emotional and physical well-being.

Previously Bernadine has worked as a freelance counsellor, she has contributed to initiatives across healthcare, cancer awareness, and community development – believing that true empowerment begins with holistic care. Her approach is both compassionate and practical, grounded in real-world experience and a genuine desire to make a difference.

Beyond counselling, Bernadine finds expression through music and creativity in the kitchen. For her, music is healing, and cooking is connection—two passions that reflect her nurturing spirit and belief in the little things that nourish life and soul.

Anmol Kumar

Associate – Data & Office

Anmol Kumar is an Data & Office associate at CAPED, where he plays a key role in managing project data, streamlining internal systems, and ensuring information flows smoothly across teams. He oversees platforms like FFGxCAPED and iECHO, offers tech support, and trains colleagues on using digital tools – making him the team’s go-to for all things technical.

Anmol’s journey at CAPED began in administration, and through consistent learning and a solutions-oriented mindset, he has grown into a dependable, detail-driven team member. He’s currently sharpening his communication and Google Workspace skills to support his continued growth.

Off the clock, Anmol is immersed in the digital world – exploring website structures, studying content trends, and running his own blogging platforms. Writing helps him stay informed and express creativity, while his curiosity keeps him connected to emerging ideas and innovations.

Shekhar Kumar

Accounts Manager

Shekhar Kumar is the Accounts Manager at CAPED, bringing over 6 years of experience in financial management, compliance, and reporting. With a B.Com degree and a strong grasp of accounting systems like Tally ERP and advanced Excel, Shekhar ensures smooth financial operations, accurate documentation, and regulatory alignment across the organization.

From managing payrolls and audits to preparing MIS reports and maintaining internal controls, Shekhar’s precision and problem-solving skills are integral to CAPED’s day-to-day functioning. His bilingual fluency allows him to collaborate effectively across teams and regions.

Beyond the numbers, Shekhar finds joy in exploring new destinations, capturing nature through photography, and spending time with family and friends. He’s also a sports enthusiast who enjoys badminton and cricket, and music is his go-to companion for winding down. His calm, reliable presence makes him a steady anchor in CAPED’s mission-driven work.

Amit Kumar

Senior Program Officer, Ranchi- Jharkhand

Amit Kumar is a dedicated development professional with over 12 years of experience in program management, administration, and stakeholder engagement. As Senior Program Officer at CAPED, he drives cancer awareness and advocacy efforts in Jharkhand.

Previously, he led REACH’s workplace engagement strategy and mentored grassroots TB champions, contributing to Jharkhand’s state policy shift. He has also managed multi-stakeholder health programs at CINI, overseeing budgets, operations, and reporting. Amit holds a PGPM and combines analytical precision with a passion for public health impact.

Outside of work, Amit is an enthusiastic home chef who enjoys experimenting with non-vegetarian dishes and snacks. A passionate cricketer, he played for his college team and continues to enjoy the sport. His creative spirit and energy enrich both his personal and professional life.

Dr Anupam Saha

State Lead, Jharkhand

Dr. Anupam Saha serves as the State Lead – Jharkhand at CAPED, bringing over 11 years of experience across public health systems, stakeholder engagement, and program implementation. His expertise lies in building strategic partnerships to drive cervical, breast, and oral cancer prevention across the state.

Before CAPED, he led major health interventions with The Global Fund, Piramal Foundation, and WBSACS, spanning TB, vector-borne disease, and HIV programs. An MPH graduate from the University of Bedfordshire, UK, Anupam combines field insight with academic rigor in epidemiology, program evaluation, and systems thinking.

Beyond work, Anupam has a deep love for literature. Music, travel, and cricket are core to his identity—offering creative expression, cultural immersion, and lifelong passion. He approaches both health equity and personal growth with the same values: curiosity, resilience, and empathy.
